Department of Nanotechnologies and Innovative MAterials | N.I.MA.
The Department of Nanotechnologies and Innovative Materials for Health, Architecture and Cultural Heritage provides assistance to companies in the innovation process through the adoption and testing of new materials and processes.
The main objectives of the NIMA department are the development and testing of innovative materials and the validation of performance and durability over time through accelerated aging tests.
Within the frame of the Department, NIMA VAL Lab was established in close collaboration with various industrial partners to help companies to validate their products through verifying the materials behavior over time.
The laboratory was designed with a strong interdisciplinary approach as engineers, architects, biologists, geologists and physicists work together for a 360° vision.
The laboratory is equipped with various instruments focusing on the characterization of different kinds of materials such as coatings, metals, plastics, stone and mortars.
Depending on the type, the desired performances and the environmental operating conditions, specific accelerated aging protocols are defined, and the materials are subjected to cycles of thermo-hygrometric or physic-mechanical stress.
